Rahat Naveed Masud
Born in Lahore, Rahat Naveed Masud discovered her talent for art through a conductive atmosphere at home. After graduating from Lahore College in 1974, Rahat obtained her Masters in Painting from the University of Punjab in 1976. She began a teaching career by joining the faculty at the Art Department at the University of Punjab, as a lecturer.
Rahat obtained admission at Kingston University, London where she took another Masters Degree in Art and Design in 1995. During her time in England, she documented it by painting and drawing the landscapes and scenes around her. That is also where she began doing pastel work. She is one of the best exponents of the pastel medium in the country. The gold in her work, combined with light and dark pastels, makes the piece of art eye catching.
Rahat returned to Lahore and began a full-time teaching job at the University of Punjab as well as becoming the principal of the university in 2009. She played an active role in Pakistan’s art scene for 3 decades, as a committed member of the board of the Punjab Artists’ Association, as an outstanding teacher and a practicing artist. She is known for her impeccable teaching, which can be seen in her students, which are now some of the most well known artists in the art field. She has been exhibited widely, both in Pakistan and abroad and has been vital to the school and in giving a new direction to theory and practice.
